It was my first time visiting a mortuary in Kasoa (in the central region of Ghana) on account of a dead relative. When I entered the place, I saw the mortuary workers (men) bathing some corpses. As I stood observing the environment, I saw the mortuary men open a big door. Inside the room came a strong and strange odor.
I saw adult men, young men, and women arranged in the room like “trees.’ One of the mortuary men brought a corpse (an older woman) to a table from the room.
As soon as he brought the older woman from the mortuary room, he started bathing her on a table. Another thing I observed in the mortuary was that the corpses were naked. There was nothing like rich, poor, old, or young corpses. One thing that identified the corpses was the numbers hung on their toes. The corpses were arranged like “fishes” in boxes. I felt and smelled a strange odor coming from the room. It took me more than five days to forget that encounter.
You may be asking why I am sharing this information. The truth is that everything that has breath has an expiry date. God (Elohim) is the only one who can not die because He is the source of life. A time is coming; we shall “die” and stand before the judgment seat of Christ Jesus. Books will be opened in heaven, and everyone will receive his reward or judgment. Is your name in the Book of Life?
I mean, does heaven bear a record of your name? Your name might be in the church, school, family, business, and association records. Is your name in the Book of Life? In the New Testament, Apostle John wrote about the Book of Life, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:12,15 KJV.
As you can see, the Book of Life holds the records of the saints. If your name is not found in the Book of Life, you will be cast into the lake of fire. The fact that your name is in the church does not mean your name is in the Book of Life.
The Book of Life contains the names of those born again-people who have repented from their sins and accepted Christ Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.
Like the scene in the mortuary, a time is coming; you will end there, If you are to die now, are you sure the holy angels will find your name in the book of life? If Christ Jesus should appear now, are you sure the holy angels will find your name in the Book of Life?
Christianity is not a playground to show your beauty, pride, assets, money, connections, and status. Christianity is a walk of the Spirit. We walk and live by the principles of the Word (Holy Bible) and the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Paying your offerings, tithes, and sowing seeds to expand the Church is not enough. It is not enough to exhibit your Christianity with church attendance. Although attending church services and paying your offering is part of the Christian faith, you must know God for yourself, It is good to have your name recorded in the church’s book. However, it would be best if you were assured that your name is recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:21-23 KJV.
You may think your good works qualify you to be in heaven. However, Christ Jesus will reject you because you work iniquities (see Matthew 7:21-23). Your good works will generate eternal rewards in the Celestial City if Christ Jesus records your name in His book (the Book of Life). Some “Christian believers” may be surprised when Christ Jesus denies them on the judgment day. These “Christian believers” might think their accurate prophecies, good works, evangelism, intercession, and church planting will save them. However, Christ Jesus will deny them because he did not know them. These Christians acted like the Pharisees who had no relationship with God (the Holy Spirit). Wickedness and willful disobedience to God’s Word can erase your name from the Book of Life (meditate on Matthew 7:21-23 and check out these articles for more profound revelations)
Power, money, and fame are temporal things, so don’t put all your faith in them. A time is coming your money will fail you. A time is coming when you will lose power in the government, workplace, and jurisdiction. A time is coming when your status and acquired assets will be useless because we don’t use money, power, and fame to enter heaven. God does not record your name in the Book of Life because of your money, power, and fame.
He records your name in the Book of Life because Christ Jesus knows you. God records your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life because you are born again. Lazarus did not enter because he was poor. He entered heaven because his name was in the Book of Life.
Meditate on the following profound questions carefully:
• Are you on the side of the goats or the sheep?
• Do you help the poor from your heart?
• Do you visit the vulnerable?
• Do you encourage or discourage others?
• Are you financially fit to feed the poor, sick, and those in prison but have decided to ignore them?
• Do you value people or rubbish people?
• Are you using the financial blessings to build the Church and support gospel ministers?
God knows our hearts. If you want to keep your name in the Book of Life, act like the sheep described in the Holy Scriptures (read Matthew 25:31-46).
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing, therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 2 Corinthians 5:10-11 KJV
Each of us will stand before the judgment seat of Christ Jesus. Whatever we do (whether good or bad), we shall give account to Christ Jesus. Have you ever felt the terror of God? Have you ever felt the thunder strike? God is a Lamb and Lion!
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after death, the judgment of God awaits us all. You have a choice. God will record your name in the Book of Life if you repent from your evil ways (sins), confess Christ Jesus as the Savior and Lord of your life, and become as humble as the child (see John 3:1-7 and Matthew 18:3)
