A Day Will Come

Trust the process

On a journey from Takoradi to Accra, a man sat by my side at the front of the bus. In a calm composure, he kept staring at me. I realized he wanted us to talk like men.

I realized he’s got something on his mind, but he needed someone to share with. Not only that, but I realized from his composure that he was depressed, similar to most men in “today’s Ghana.”

So I smiled at him and intentionally cracked a joke, which got the driver laughing out loud. Thereafter, the man by my side had a change of mood, having laughed at my joke. We began to get along. “Are you a Ga?” he asked,” I answered in the affirmative.

Guess what, folks, he’s left behind a wife and newborn baby to set off on a journey to Accra. He didn’t have any destination in mind, for all he wanted was to get to Accra, not to talk of where to place his head. He plans to get a construction site and communicate to the foreman for acceptance to be added to the labor team. “I couldn’t raise the transportation from Mankesim to Accra, but thanks to my wife, she had GHS200 as her savings, so she offered me GHS150 and kept GHS50 for herself and the newborn baby.” He said, showing me a picture of his beautiful family.

Trust me, cherished reader, this truly got me emotional, regardless of my challenges.

So eventually, I connected him to a contractor client, and the last time I checked, he seemed to be doing well, taking care of his family.

Just like this man, most men are going through a lot behind the scenes. “Times are hard,” a phrase on everyone’s lips.

Today, if you see any responsible parent out there, you’ve got to accord them the necessary respect and goodwill, for a day’s meal demands loads of hustles.

But certainly, a day will come when we shall look back and smile at the miles we’ve covered on the crooked road.

A day will come! May God bless the Ghanaian parents.

It is well!
